• Our family is getting ready to head back to the Mainland until October.  People often ask us "so where do you prefer living at?"  It’s a bit like asking if you like chocolate or chocolate with nuts better. I think the family is ready and accepting of the coming change.

Laird just returned from Tahiti where the waves were big, really big.  It was a nice little gift at the end of his Winter Season when he begins to emotionally prepare for the summer ocean.  With the exception of hoping for a Southern Hemisphere swell he pretty much comes to terms with what he calls "Lake Pacifica"...

  • Right as March kicks off in our home we celebrate Laird.  His Birthday falls on the second day of the month, and he lives up to his Pisces sign; loves the water, and sensitive. It appears that Mother Nature is bringing him some goodies, and for a few days this week there will be surf.  I always get a kick out of the various reactions to "there is surf".  My girlfriends who try to get in the ocean everyday are like "oh yeah, is there any movies playing because it's supposed...

  • Last Saturday I come home from my usual day of playing volleyball with the boys to find Laird icing his left foot in a bucket of ice.  My first thought is that the fun he and the girls were having must have gotten out of hand. I look at Laird's eyes and can see he is not feeling great.  He convinces me it's not broken as I scan over the very prehistoric looking foot.  Mind you this is the foot that looks already a bit deformed since Laird has broken...

  • My oldest daughter Bela is my step daughter so she lives on Maui and is a senior in high school.  This past week she was visiting and before she left she asked her Dad if they could take a jaunt down the NaPali coast before she left.  When I say the NaPali coast is a magical place it doesn't begin to describe the majesty.  Low and behold on the day Bela had to fly Laird woke up all the girls, threw them on ski's and off they went.  Reece had...

  • Now that we have been back to Hawaii for Laird's surf season he is starting to come alive.  Even his physique changes when he has the chance to spend hours in the water and waves. I have a harder time slowing down and dealing with fewer distractions.  Sounds ridiculous, but being still and just ‘being’ can be a lot more work.  Laird just thrives.  As the insanity of the Mainland and its freeways melt away Laird can turn his fuller focus to Mother Nature.  One of the many things I...

  • It all started when some people told Laird about stickers that were posted at Malibu Surfrider, and a few other spots in Southern California that simply said BLAME LAIRD. Laird then started getting calls about them popping up on his native island of Kaua’i. Of course maybe for the first few seconds the notion that someone was putting energy into ‘BLAMING’ Laird stung him a bit, but quickly we all started to get a great belly laugh from it. I can remember it being so easy to find Laird in...
